The season of giving arrived early in New Rochelle, where hundreds of families lined up at Hope Community Services for the organization’s annual turkey and chicken giveaway.

In partnership with the Westchester Jewish Council and UJA Federation, volunteers handed out more than 200 birds — turkey or chicken, depending on preference — all donated and free for local families preparing for the holiday.

Executive director Sylvia Hamer said the day is one of the busiest of the year, but also one of the most meaningful.

“Seeing how their faces light up and knowing that we’re helping to feed people for the holidays,” she said.

Organizers say turnout continues to grow each year, reflecting both the rising need and the community’s commitment to supporting one another.

Volunteers, neighbors and even local elected officials packed bags, cheered on families and spread holiday warmth.

“It’s wonderful… they help people,” said one grateful resident.
