Across Westchester, families are celebrating Diwali — the Indian Festival of Lights — and in Ardsley, that spirit of light and togetherness is shining bright.
Inside the Ardsley Middle School gym, residents gathered to decorate, dance and share traditional sweets, honoring a 2,500-year-old celebration that reminds us that good can always triumph over evil.
“Diwali is about positivity and teaching our children to be good people,” said Ardsley resident Payal Mehta. “It’s all about family and tradition.”
The Hindu festival marks Lord Rama’s return home after defeating the demon king Ravana — a victory of light over darkness that still resonates today. For many, it’s also a chance to celebrate community and cultural unity.
“It’s fun to learn more about different cultures,” said Ardsley High School student Eden Smith. “It’s a nice way to do it for the community.”
