Pleasantville High hosts White Cane Day to raise awareness for blindness

Students in Pleasantville came together to learn what it’s like to navigate the world without sight.
A tenth grader who is blind helped organize White Cane Day at Pleasantville High School, celebrating independence, awareness, and inclusion.
Students walked blindfolded with guide dogs from Guiding Eyes for the Blind and used white canes to move around campus.
They also explored braille books and assistive technology to understand how people who are visually impaired experience daily life.
“In just nine days, Morgan and her mom raised over $5,000 for the event,” organizers said.
The money funded 700 shirts printed by Spectrum Designs, a company that employs people with autism, like Morgan.
“It’s really a community that supports me,” Morgan said.
