Some Westchester County pools and beaches opened up early for the season on Monday.

County officials said they made the decision to help residents beat the extreme heat.

Here are the facilities that will now open today instead of Friday:

  • Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle

  • Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains

  • Sprain Ridge Pool in Yonkers

  • Willson's Wave Pool in Mount Vernon

The facilities will operate from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., officials said.

Croton Point Park Beach and The Brook at Tibbets in Yonkers remained closed.

Admission fees do apply and proof of residency is required at all the open pools and Glen Island Beach.

Visitor Helen Kramer said the early opening will help her stay safe in the hot temperatures.

"It's going to help us stay cool because its 100 degrees outside and we have nowhere else to go," Kramer said.
