Two New York City police officers were rescued by bystanders after being involved in a car accident in East Tremont Friday afternoon.
Authorities say a marked police SUV slammed into a traffic enforcement vehicle near the intersection of Crotona Avenue and East 181st Street. The impact caused the SUV to roll onto its side. Witnesses say neither vehicle was using emergency lights or sirens at the time of the crash.
The two NYPD officers were taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital, one of them with injuries to his neck and back. Both men are expected to recover.
