Two hikers were stuck on Hook Mountain in Nyack Beach State Park for more than two hours Monday.
The hikers climbed up an unmarked trail around 1 p.m. and soon realized they needed help. Within 20 minutes, two of the hikers, both women, said they could not complete the climb. The third hiker, a man, was able to finish and call for help.
Fire Chief Vince Reid says members of the Nyack Fire Department's high-angle rescue team harnessed the women and brought them up the mountain to the trail before lowering them back down to safety.
State park police issued the hikers tickets for illegally climbing the unmarked trail.
