A quick response by the New Rochelle Fire Department saved a home and two dogs from flames Tuesday.
Fire officials say they got a call from neighbors who saw smoke coming from the windows of the home on 539 Webster Ave. at around 11 a.m.
Homeowner Chris Ortiz was working in the Bronx and left the house empty except for his two poodles, which crews saved when they arrived.
Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, which started in a second-floor bathroom.
"We had to open up a lot of windows up there, it was hot. There are five rooms on the second floor, and the heat and smoke extended to all of them. There is heat and smoke damage throughout the second floor and on the third floor," said New Rochelle Deputy Fire Chief Robert Benz.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
