An early morning crash in Yonkers has left one woman dead and a man in critical condition.
It occurred just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday on Rumsey Road, near the intersection of Spring Road.
Witnesses say a Lincoln Town Car was heading northbound when the driver apparently lost control. The car skidded into a tree, nearly splitting it in half before coming to rest on the median.
The 28-year-old female passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 34-year-old male driver was rushed to the hospital. Officials say he is in critical, but stable condition. Police say the driver has active warrants out against him and is now in custody.
A section of Rumsey Road, between Valley and Spring roads, was temporarily shut down as police investigated the scene.
There is no word yet from police as to what exactly led to the crash, or whether drugs or alcohol were possible factors.
