Investigators say two separate crashes turned the Sprain Brook Parkway into a deadly scene late Tuesday night.
State police say two SUVs got into a minor accident, which did not initially cause life-threatening injuries. However, the collision spun one of the SUVs 180 degrees, causing it to face the wrong way as it sat on the northbound side of the parkway by the Central Avenue exit in Yonkers.
Police say a passenger in one of those vehicles got out and was fatally struck by a third oncoming gray vehicle. Police say that victim is 19-year-old Lorenzo J. Gallardo-Vligen, from Hopewell Junction in Dutchess County. They say the driver who hit the victim has been identified as 30-year-old Tyrell Smith.
The crash shut down the Parkway for seven hours, causing delays during the morning commute.
State police say the investigation is ongoing and that no charges have been filed.
