Yonkers city council members fought over a $9 million provision that would reestablish sports, arts and music programs that have been cut from city schools before passing the city's $1.07 billion budget Tuesday night.
The vote passed by a vote of 6 to 1 and remains beneath the state property tax cap.
News 12 previously reported that Gov. Cuomo announced $25 million in aid for the city's schools last week, and the city says it plans to increase sales tax to cover other school-related costs.
Parents have been campaigning for the city to bring back such programs full time.
Some council members say it was not the budget they wanted, but was the best they could do with the assets available.
