State officials say the potential $74 million shortfall stems from federal funding cuts affecting Medicaid programs at public hospitals in New York. However, the medical center disputes the $74 million figure, stating that its budget depends on complex and varied factors.

Some lawmakers are now trying to restore the federal dollars by the end of this year.

Westchester Medical Center released a statement saying that it's confident it the changes will have no impact on patient care. The medical center adds that it is working with state government “on the program changes and what the accurate, final individual changes will look like for Westchester Medical Center."
