Video could provide clues in immigrant's murder
Surveillance video from a Bedford estate could provide new clues as to what role, if any, police may have played in the death of an immigrant.
Rene Perez was found barely alive on Bedford?s Byram Lake Road in April. Perez died a short time later and his death was ruled a homicide. Three Mount Kisco police officers, who may have been the last ones to see him alive, are being investigated.
A report aired by WCBS-TV claims sources close to the investigation have video from the cameras protecting billionaire Nelson Peltz?s estate. The cameras are located on Byram Lake Road a short distance from where Perez was discovered.
Perez was last seen at a Laundromat in Mount Kisco talking to police, who were responding to a 911 call he made. Three officers responded to the scene. The investigation has reportedly focused on one of those officers, George Bubaris, who did not have another call for about 30 minutes after the 911 call was cleared at the Laundromat.
All three officers say they were not on Byram Lake Road at any time that night before Perez was found. However, there is speculation that if the tape materializes and is authentic, that may prove to be untrue.
"It is known that Mr. Peltz has surveillance video at his estate, but I am unaware of any confirmation that it showed a Mount Kisco police car on the road," said Mount Kisco Village Attorney Whitney Singleton. A spokesman for the Westchester County District Attorney's Office declined to comment on the status of the investigation.
