Teachers in Rockland County took part in an active shooter seminar Sunday.

The free course was provide by Rockland Indoor Shooting Education.

"Teachers are here because they want to learn, they are interested in protecting their students," said Steven Forman, assistant principal of Ramapo High School.

Attendees learned how police respond to active shooters. It also gave guidelines on how school districts do more than the standard lockdown and take a stance to run, hide and fight.

"We have federal regulations and state stipulations that we need to go beyond that and those recommendations are out there," said Francis Brooke, a former Rockland County police officer and certified course instructor.

He says that teachers need to be trained to barricade doors and effectively fight back if necessary.

Rockland Indoor Shooting Education is hosting another free training session for teacher Monday night.
