Senate defector's WC home allegedly broken into
Police are investigating the break-in at Bronx Sen. Pedro Espada?s Mamaroneck home; an invasion they say occurred just hours after he joined the Republican minority on Monday.
Espada and Queens Sen. Hiram Monseratte shocked Albany when they joined the Republican minority to build a new bi partisan coalition with a 32 - 30 majority.
The legislator says someone broke into his property between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The senator doesn?t believe any cash, electronics or jewelry were stolen, only confidential documents.
Although police won't say if the break in was politically motivated, Espada doesn't think it's a coincidence. ?I think it's related, but we'll let the law enforcement people determine that."
Despite the home invasion, Espada says he and Sen. Monseratte do not regret their decision.
