Students at several schools in the Hudson Valley were on high alert while police searched for a hit-and-run suspect in Mount Vernon.
Security guards at Mount Vernon High School were forced to stop cars trying to get on campus and tell drivers there was a lockout. A spokesperson from the school district told News 12 that students and staff were safe inside.
Officials posted messages on their website updating parents, and also made automated phone calls to students' homes.
All six schools in the Pelham School District were also on lockout, as well as two schools in the Tuckahoe School District. All lockouts have been lifted.
