A police standoff in Monmouth County has ended after nine hours.
Middletown police were called to the McGuire’s Grove apartment complex on Kimberly Court around 8 a.m. Wednesday for some type of disturbance.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that two brothers live in the apartment with their father and that the brothers had an argument.  One brother ran out and called police, according to neighbors. It was believed that the other brother inside, identified as James Guiney, 39, may have had a weapon inside. The brothers’ father was also inside the apartment at the time.
The apartment complex was evacuated as a precaution as police negotiators tried to get Guiney to come outside.
Police officers and SWAT team members surrounded the complex around 4 p.m. officers fired tear gas canisters inside the apartment. News 12 crews saw a man, believed to be Guiney, talking on the phone and pacing inside.
Around 5 p.m. the SWAT team rushed into the apartment and took Guiney into custody.
Guiney is currently being held on outstanding warrants, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Additional charges will likely be filed.
There were no reports of any injuries.
