Peekskill man accused of stealing Greyhound bus
A Peekskill man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a Greyhound bus on Christmas Day and going on a 60-mile joyride.
Authorities say Andrew Hickey, 39, stole the bus in Syracuse and decided to visit a friend in northern New York. They say Hickey told them he got on the empty bus because he was cold and the vehicle was running and warm while being fueled and cleaned at a bus depot.
Officials say Hickey drove off and headed north to a friend's home in Watertown. Police say he has a commercial driver's license and knows how to drive a bus.
Greyhound officials tracked down the $500,000 bus using a GPS, and from their headquarters they were able to electronically disable it on Route 11. They called police and told them where they would likely find the bus.
Hickey has been charged with possession of stolen property. He is being held on $20,000 cash bail.
