Officials, residents unhappy with potential return of Westchester Gun Show
Westchester's controversial gun show may be returning, and not everyone is happy about it.
Ben Rosenshine, the owner of Blue Line Tactical in Elmsford, says gun shows are safe and operate the same way as gun stores.
"People talk about a so-called 'gun show loophole.' The fact is there is no such thing as a loophole," he says. "The laws remain the same whether a gun is sold at a store like this or at a gun show."
He says that anyone buying a gun at a show has to fill out paperwork and pass a background check.
In January, around 7,500 people packed the Westchester County Center for the first gun show there since 2012. It was canceled for several years in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.
County Legislator Virginia Perez says it should stay that way.
"It does strike a chord because we don't want to promote a society of - a culture of - guns, ammunition, knives and all kinds of weapons in the community that I represent," she says.
Those against the gun show have called for it to be banned from county property.
"We're not trying to stop it altogether. We're just saying that it doesn't need to happen in the County Center where we have a lot of family venues," Perez says.
News 12 reached out to County Executive Rob Astorino's office for comment and has not yet heard back.
