Just days after he was sworn into office, Westchester County Executive George Latimer faced his first test with Thursday's blustery snowstorm.
At the Westchester County Emergency Operations Center in Hawthorne, Latimer held his first briefing about how the county was staying on top of the storm.
"The general rule of common sense applies on a day like today. If people do not have to go out of the house, if it's not essential travel, they should refrain from being out on the roads," said Latimer.
Latimer said his biggest concern in addition to the wind was the plunging temperatures following the snow.
The wind knocked out power to hundreds of homes in Yorktown, Yonkers and Mount Pleasant.
The new county executive says he's working with the utilities to make sure the lights stay on for all Westchester residents.
