Dozens of senior citizens in Yonkers remain displaced after a massive mudslide at their apartment building.
People living in an apartment complex on 95-97 Walsh Road were evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a section of a retaining wall collapsed in the back of the buildings.
Several tons of stone and mud were sent crashing into the nine-story buildings, which are operated by the Yonkers Housing Authority.
Investigators say a water leak from a broken pipe on Ashburton Avenue likely contributed to the problem.
Officials say there are no concerns at this point that the building is unstable, but there are other safety hazards keeping residents out.
The potential problem now is that the rest of the retaining wall may collapse.
Officials say crews have been tirelessly removing what they describe as a "dirt milkshake," to relieve pressure on the back wall of the building.
