A Morris County teenager who has been missing since Oct. 30 was spotted in Camden several days ago, but his current location is unknown.
Mountain Lakes police and the Morris County prosecutor say 15-year-old Thomas Kolding was spotted near the Walter Ran Train Station in Camden on Nov. 3. He was dressed in an orange and black stripped hooded sweatshirt and a camouflage jacket with dark pants. He was also seen carrying a blue Adidas backpack. An image of Kolding was captured on a surveillance camera.
Officials say that it was not clear where he went after he was spotted at the Camden train station.
The investigation has revealed that Kolding ran away from home after an argument with his family. He took the train from Denville to the Newark Broad Street Station. From there, he traveled by train to New York Penn Station.
Officials say that Kolding had a strong interest in going to California. His father Nicolai Kolding says that he thinks his son left home with about $1,000, which he earned from mowing lawns and refereeing sporting events.
“If Thomas, in the off chance he’s out there, just of course we love you, Thomas,” Nicolai says.
The Morris County community came out Wednesday night to support the Kolding family and to let Thomas know that he is missed.
“Folks want to reach out and do something and they needed something tangible,” says Pastor Debra Duke, with the Community Church of Mountain Lakes.
Counselors will be available at Mountain Lakes schools Thursday for any students that need to talk about the disappearance of their friend.
Nicolai Kolding says that he just wants his son home.
"I know there's really going to be a time to think about [why he left] really hard and to ask some really hard questions,” Nicolai says. “I’ve been doing that late at night too.”
Anyone who may have information about Thomas Kolding’s whereabouts should call the Mountain Lakes Police Department at 973-334-1413.
