BREAKING UPDATE (7:08 p.m.): Officials from North Port, Florida, say today's search of the Carlton reserve in Florida for Brian Laundrie has concluded with 'nothing of note' to report. They plan to return Wednesday 'with a similar operation.'
The search for Brian Laundrie is intensifying in Florida.
Law enforcement from multiple agencies were back at the Carlton Reserve Tuesday, using off-road vehicles and drones in an attempt to find him.
Laundrie is the fiancé of Blue Point native Gabby Petito and a person of interest in her disappearance.
A body resembling Petito’s was found in Wyoming Sunday, where she was believed to have been last. An autopsy Tuesday confirmed the body is Petito and the coroner ruled the initial cause of death as a homicide.
Laundrie has not been seen or heard from in a week, but his parents told police he was heading to a 25,00-acre wildlife area in Florida.
Authorities say the terrain has been very difficult to search.
“Essentially 75% of it is underwater and others that are dry, we’re trying to clear,” North Port Police Commander Joe Fussell says.
There have been several reports of possible sightings of Laundrie, including one Tuesday on the Florida panhandle.
However, he has still not been found.
North Port police say the search for Laundrie is now an FBI-led criminal investigation.
