An immigration advocacy group met with Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim Monday to discuss new changes to the Trust Act, which are expected to take effect in tomorrow.

Make The Road CT members met with the mayor to discuss their safety and to demand the immigrant community be heard.

There will be changes to the Trust Act, including sharp limits on when police and marshals at courthouses can communicate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Federal agents will now need a warrant signed by a judge and not just an administrative detainer.

Sonia Hernandez says immigrants need to know the city will protect them.

Mayor Ganim says he appreciates Make The Road CT members coming in. He reiterated that Bridgeport police officers will not report to ICE. He says they will not violate federal lawn but that they will not act on behalf of ICE.
