High school serves as temporary shelter for fire victims
A fire at a Yonkers apartment complex left more than 150 people wondering where to go next.
Once families escaped the heavy flames of their apartment building on Parkview Avenue and Garrett Place, many went to Roosevelt High School to the reception center where they registered with the Red Cross.
The reception center transitioned into a temporary shelter, but it is unknown how many people stayed there Tuesday night.
The Red Cross provides the people with food, drinks, money for medications and money to replace their damaged clothes.
Families will also have access to health and emotional support volunteers.
Many local businesses were trying to find ways to help the victims stay warm and nourished.

After families leave the shelter, many will either stay with family and friends, or in some cases, find a new place to live and get back on their feet.
