Hartsdale mom hits hospital with second lawsuit
A woman from Hartsdale who filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against White Plains Hospital is now filing a second lawsuit for discrimination.
Angelique Wilhelm gave birth to her daughter six weeks premature. After her daughter was put on a ventilator, Wilhelm says her baby?s lungs collapsed. The infant was rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital where she suffered a heart attack and nearly died because her body had become overfilled with oxygen. Wilhelm?s daughter, now 22 months old, suffered severe brain damage and requires constant care. Wilhelm filed a malpractice lawsuit against the hospital. The state health department issued a report last month finding that a nurse connected a tube on the ventilator to the wrong port.
Now, Wilhelm has filed a second suit for discrimination. Wilhelm works in the CAT scan department at White Plains Hospital. She claims after she filed the first suit, she was ostracized by co-workers and demoted. Wilhelm says she needs the job she has had for the past 15 years for both the salary and the insurance. She says the bills for her daughter?s care are already in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. White Plains Hospital says it is policy not to comment on active litigation cases.
