Friends, family remember Peggy Nadell
Friends and family are celebrating the life of an 80-year-old Rockland County community activist who was violently murdered for money.
Peggy Nadell's daughter-in-law, Diana Nadell, and Andrea Benson were convicted of murdering her in a plot to pocket some of her $4 million estate. Nadell's daughter, Suzanne Nadell Scaccio, found the body in her mother's Valley Cottage home.
Nadell's friends and family gathered Saturday for a memorial ceremony and to renew calls for justice.
Mourning friends and family members described Nadell as full of love and life. They say she was active in the community and very generous, even toward the woman who would eventually kill her.
"Peggy was so good to her," said Doris Codispoti, a friend. "Peggy was a wonderful mother-in-law. I mean she bent over backwards for her."
Two other women connected with the crime, Elita Grant and Tanisha Joyner, tried to provide alibis for the killers. They were released from jail Friday after cooperating with authorities.
Scaccio said they should have done more time.
"They took my mother," she said. "She was my best friend."
