Firefighter in medically induced coma identified
A firefighter placed in a medically induced coma Sunday night after battling a massive fire in Orange County has been identified as 60-year-old Craig Buccieri.
Fire officials say that the flames started at around 9 p.m. on Saturday at a three-story building on Orange Avenue in Walden. More than 100 firefighters from 10 departments fought the blaze.
Fire officials say that Buccieri went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he was placed into the coma. His son, Anthony Buccieri, is an EMT and immediately started to perform CPR on his dad. He is being credited with saving his dad's life.
Anthony Buccieri says his dad joined the Walden Fire Department in October. He says that his dad is still in a coma, but is expected to be fine.
Two other firefighters sustained minor injuries, including one who suffered a twisted ankle.
All of the residents of the building made it out safely. Four families are homeless and are being helped by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials say it isn't considered suspicious. They say the fire started in the ceiling on the third floor.
