'Doors flying all over the place.’ Jerk chicken food truck explodes in Mount Vernon

A Jamaican-style food truck exploded in Mount Vernon Tuesday afternoon.
The Jollyz Jerk Spot truck exploded at a stop sign at South Fulton and Eighth Street, causing its doors and windows to blow right off.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded before the damage could get any worse, but the Westchester-based food truck is out of business for now.
Owner Oswald Wells is known for slinging Jamaican Classics like jerk chicken and oxtail to his customers. Wells apologized for the inconvenience, but says he’s grateful he's safe.
"I came to the stop sign and by the time I started the brake to stop, I just heard a big blast. I felt like somebody slapped me in the back of my head and the next thing I know I see doors flying all over the place,” said Oswald. "No matter what you lose, you can rebuild it back. So I don't worry about all the financial loss or the material loss, I'm alive and well so I know I can do it again."
Wells says he'll have Jollyz Jerk Spot Part 2 up and running for his customers as soon as possible.
The deputy fire chief says the cause of the explosion appears to be a faulty propane gas connection inside the truck.
