Cops: Yonkers fire did not cause elderly woman's death
Yonkers police say the woman who died at a senior citizens apartment complex did not die from the fire that destroyed her apartment.
Yonkers police are now saying the death of 78-year-old Louise Paciarello on Wednesday evening is suspicious, but they stopped short of ruling it a homicide. Investigators combed the scene at Seymour Street Thursday to try and find clues into just how the retired St. Joseph?s Hospital aide died. Several elderly residents did their best to save Paciarello, but heavy black smoke in her apartment was just too much for them. Three people were taken to hospitals for observation. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to all 37 other units. Police say while the fire may have contributed to Paciarello's death, it was not the cause. The medical examiner concurs and says something besides the smoke and flames killed the woman.Related Information Fire at Yonkers senior complex claims tenant's life
