A bill that would give federal workers extra time to pay taxes is one signature away from becoming a law.

The law would allow municipalities to give qualified residents an extension to pay their property taxes without penalty.

The bill recently passed the Assembly and Senate. It is now waiting for Gov. Andrew Cuomo's signature before it could become official.

"In my conversations with the governor and the governor's office, they're trying to do everything they can to deal with the government shutdown as well, so I have no reason to believe he will be anything but supportive and sign it as quickly as possible," said state Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski.

County, town and some village taxes are due at the end of the month.
