The 10th annual Bethpage Turkey Drive to benefit Island Harvest was held on Friday.
People brought frozen turkeys and nonperishable food items to the Bethpage Federal Credit Union headquarters. There was even a drive-thru where volunteers took donated food from car trunks.
Randi Shubin Dresner, of Island Harvest, says there are about 300,000 Long Islanders who are food insecure.
Brian Raskin, a Garden City dentist, donated $5,000 to Island Harvest.
"I like to give if I can, and I just find that Island Harvest being local is something very important to me," he says.
Last year, the Bethpage Turkey Drive collected 9,000 pounds of food, including 2,500 turkeys.
