A renowned female violinist of color is teaching students the fundamentals of music in the Bronx.
Iymaani Abdul Hamid has been playing the violin ever since she was 5 years old.
Now, the 28-year-old woman is teaching others how to play at her school IAH Studio in the Bronx.
Last year, Hamid launched the 'Ode to the Black Fiddler,' a music festival to introduce her students to professional musicians of color.
She says performers include string instrument musicians of color in a variety of genres.
Hamid says the concert festival will return for its second year this weekend.
"You don't have to go to midtown and pay $50 or more for a great concert. It's not just classical music, it's string music and it's all genres, so if you play violin, but you do hip-hop or if you play Latin jazz, we want you there," she says.
The 'Ode to the Black Fiddler' music festival will take place on Saturday, August 4, at Gavin Brown Enterprise Gallery from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
