Two off-duty police officers from Tarrytown prevented an apparent suicide from happening on the Tappan Zee Bridge Friday.
Sgt. Frank Giampiccolo, of the Tarrytown Police Deparmtent, says his officers were headed home just before midnight when they saw a man stop his car on the Tappan Zee Bridge and run barefoot toward the guard rail. When the officers intervened, the man returned to his car and drove off.
The man who had apparently tried to end his life is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at the Westchester Medical Center.
Last Thursday, police say a New Jersey woman was killed when she jumped off the bridge.
