The two suspects accused of a cross burning in Cortlandt were in court for a hearing Friday where one of them apologized to the victims.

Christopher Hudak, 20, is accused of setting a wooden cross on fire in front of Clara and Wes Artope?s home in November. His 19-year-old friend, Ryan Martin, allegedly drove Hudak to a gas station and then to the family?s yard.

In court, Martin apologized to the Artopes.

?If his apology is real, we accept the apology,? Wes Artope says. ?But now he?s going to have to pay for what he did.?

Police say the cross burning was in retaliation against the Artope?s son, who had a fight that day with Hudak?s younger sister at school.

The case has been presented to a grand jury for review and a possible indictment.
