Several youths at a juvenile detention center in Goshen were taken to the hospital this past week after what inside sources say were riots there.

The state Office of Children and Family Services oversees the facility on Cross Road.

A representative for the state agency says “two group disturbances” resulted in facility staff seeking outside medical care for the residents.

Sources say one youth injured was slashed in the neck and required 30 stitches. They allege it’s the second incident involving makeshift weapons inside the center since June.

OCFS says it regularly coordinates on-site searches with law enforcement, and that the incident remains under investigation.

“Any individual discovered to have or facilitate possession of contraband is subject to discipline and OCFS coordination with law enforcement to address individual actors found to have engaged in such acts,” according to a spokesperson for the Office of Children and Family Services.

News 12 reported on safety concerns inside the facility last year.
