A youth outreach program in Mount Vernon didn't let the COVID-19 pandemic slow down its plans to open a camp this summer.
The Youth Community Outreach Program is offering an outdoor camp for kids whose parents are either essential workers or have returned to work due to reopening.
About 20 to 25 kids attend the camp, from 6 to 12 years old.
The camp features sports and arts-and-crafts, as well as other activities.
Health protocols are strict, with temperature checks throughout the day, masks required and a socially distanced setup that aims to keep everyone healthy.
Camp runs five days a week until Aug. 7.
Despite not operating since March 13 - when the state closed all after school programs - Y-COP received enough money in donations to make the camp possible.
