A Yorktown teacher is accused of possessing child pornography.
Prosecutors with the Westchester District Attorney's Office say 45-year-old Jeffrey Whalen distributed two files containing child porn in August.
They say Whalen produced, directed and promoted an obscene performance which includes sexual conduct by a child.
Prosecutors say the files show the genitals of a child believed to be between the ages of 8 and 10 years old.
Whalen, who is the band director of Crompond School in Yorktown, was arrested and charged Tuesday afternoon.
Yorktown school officials released a statement saying in part, "Mr. Whalen was not working in the district on Tuesday and will be on administrative leave pending the disposition of further proceedings. We want to emphasize that the authorities have said at this point they are not aware of any involvement of district students."
Whalen is due back in court later this month.
