An apparel-making company is pivoting to manufacturing masks covers to assist with medical masks shortage.
Game sportswear and workwear is a second-generation family business ran by Andrea Cancellieri.
Due to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s executive order to shut down non-essential businesses, their 40-year-old business had to shut down.
“...For me, it was gutting to have to lay off 33 people,” says Cancellieri. “When these machines go quiet, my heart stops beating.”
However, rather than close up shop altogether, the owner decided to use her production line to make a difference.
In a matter of days, the owner and her team retrofitted their machines and began making covers for N95 masks.
“You have to dig deep, pull up your britches and get to work," she says.
Beginning next week, Game sportswear and workwear will construct 5,000 covers per week and distribute to anyone who needs them free of charge.
