Students from Yonkers Public Schools are demanding increased funding for education.
Busloads of students from My Brother's and Sister's Keeper joined "Ella Fitzgerald Academy" in attending the 2024-25 budget testimony yesterday.
The primary concern is that some schools in Westchester County are poised to lose funding if the current budget is approved.
Mayor Mike Spano was also present, advocating for equitable funding for Westchester's largest city.
The mayor took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post, "Yonkers faces severe cuts without guaranteed funding." He added that "the city is being shortchanged by the Aid and Incentives for Municipalities program and has not seen its share of the state's growth."
The final state budget is due on April 1.
