A student at a Yonkers elementary school has been diagnosed with the potentially deadly enterovirus D68.
Yonkers school officials tell News 12 that the child, who is suffering from severe respiratory illness, has been removed from the classroom at Cedar Place Elementary School.
School officials say they are planning a meeting to further inform parents about the virus and what they can do to help avoid their children getting sick.
The enterovirus illness usually starts off like a common cold, with symptoms including a runny nose, fever, coughing and muscle aches. It has sickened hundreds of children across the nation.
Although there are no targeted treatments or vaccines for the virus, doctors say prevention is key.
