A Yonkers man is charged with assault after allegedly whipping his 11-year-old stepson so badly the boy had to go to the hospital.
According to police, neighbors and officers could hear the boy screaming from the street outside the apartment on Ridge Avenue Thursday. Police say Shawn Johnson whipped his stepson with a radio cord about 30 times on his back. Police say they saw a bloody T-shirt when they got to the apartment. They also say the boy had problems breathing. Johnson told police he was disciplining the boy for acting out at school.
Johnson spent the night in jail and will be arraigned on assault charges in Yonkers City Court.
