A Yonkers St. Patrick's Day tradition has returned as the green line has once again been painted down the middle of McLean Avenue.

The street was closed off as Mayor Mike Spano, local lawmakers and Irish dignitaries all joined in on the festivities this morning.

Spano says he expects around 30,000 people to watch in the parade this Saturday since the parade is a staple in the community.

Many folks say after they are ready to celebrate after years of COVID-19 cancellations. "We are so excited because the community is vibrant, three years without celebrating cultural heritage, in a really meaningful way has left a big gap in the community. So, it’s nice to have everyone back out, excited to celebrate, excited to march in the parade. Everyone is wearing their colors," says Sandra Feeney-Charles, executive director of the Aisling Irish Community and Cultural Center.

The parade starts at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
