The rush was on for Yonkers residents to buy last-minute Mother's Day gifts on Saturday.
Mother's Day flower sales are a big deal, and there's something to choose from to meet everyone's budget and personal tastes, from roses to hydrangeas. Samantha Durrant, of Yonkers, bought flowers because she said her mother loves to garden.
But all the love comes with a cost as Mother's Day spending is expected to hit a record-breaking high this year because of the surging price of flowers and inflation.
Carl Weinberg, owner of Bed of Roses, says a lot of the roses and other are shipped from Ecuador and Colombia. They are trucked to Miami, which requires gasoline, and with high gas prices right now, prices for items have to be raised as well.
Nevertheless, those with love in their hearts for mom aren't discouraged by price.
