Yonkers School 13 has a new name to honor three courageous women who died fighting for human rights.
The school is now known as Las Hermanas Mirabal Community school.
The Mirabal sisters - Patria, Minerva and Maria - sacrificed their lives by fearlessly speaking out against Dominican Republic Dictator Rafael Trujillo in the 1960s.
The women were murdered on Trujillo’s orders
"What you're doing here today is letting me, letting the Dominican Republic, letting the world know that that Minerva was right," says Minerva Mirabal, Minerva's daughter.
School officials say they are happy about the school being named after these important women of history.
