Yonkers Public Schools canceling weekend activities to do a district-wide deep cleaning.
The state’s fourth largest school district is also forming a contingency plan in the event a coronavirus case is confirmed.
District Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada met with every school principal Thursday night to discuss procedures.
They say if a student or staff member is showing symptoms, or has had contact with someone with the virus:
  • They will be sent home and the school will be cleaned.
  • The district will immediately contact the county and the state health departments before making any decisions to dismiss class.
  • If a school is closed, the district is in the process of preparing a 14-day lesson plan for every grade level. It would be a pen and paper lesson plan since not every student has access to a computer and WiFi.

“I want to do is reassure our families – every case presented to us is handled with by utilizing every protocol that we have," says Dr. Quezada.
The district is also instituting new daily cleaning protocols by hitting high-trafficked areas such as cafeterias.
Dr. Quezada says all school nurses are trained to recognize the symptoms of the coronavirus, but its important that families self report information.
Field trips, other than competitions, have been canceled district wide.
