The statewide ban on single-use plastic bags goes into effect Sunday and the Yonkers Public Library is helping residents get ready for the change.
The library opened bright and early Saturday to hand out reusable bags to patrons.
It's part of a weeklong initiative the Yonkers Public Library has been doing to educate the public ahead of the ban.
All businesses in the state will no longer be allowed to supply customers with single-use plastic bags.
Under the new law, counties and cities will decide if they want to charge a 5-cent fee for single-use paper bags.
