Police and other agencies across the Hudson Valley are warning residents about scams for International Fraud Week.
The Yonkers Police Department says to look out for calls claiming to be from the IRS or another government agency.
The callers often threaten fines or say you'll be arrested unless you send money.
Police say the government will never call you to demand immediate payment.
Police have a few tips:
Never give your personal or bank information to anyone over the phone unless you know exactly who you're talking to or the company they work for.
Don't give in to pressure to do something immediately.
Verify information before taking action.
