Police: Argument outside Yonkers bar leaves 1 dead; arrest made

One of the men pulled out a gun and hit the other man with it before shooting him in the chest.

A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest Sunday morning following an argument with another man outside the Go Sports Bar and Lounge on South Broadway in Yonkers.
Police say the Carlos Villanueva, 31, pulled out a gun, struck the victim with it and then shot him. Two nearby Yonkers police officers heard the shot, rendered aid and rushed the victim to a trauma center, where he died.
Police say the Villanueva fled but was quickly apprehended on Ludlow Street. The gun was recovered from a nearby front yard.
Family members confirmed the victim’s identity as Celestino Vasquez.
The victim's father, Jose Almandonado, remembered his son as a good man who loved to work.
"I feel bad for my family. My wife is destroyed. They say 'I don't know. I don't believe that,'" Almandonado said.
Villanueva is facing second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon charges.
