Yonkers police say a Gorton High School student has been charged with assaulting a teacher.

The 16-year-old student is accused of hitting the 50-year-old teacher in a classroom Monday afternoon.

Investigators haven't said what sparked it.

The school district says it can't say whether the teacher was hurt.

The student was immediately suspended for five days.

There will be a superintendent's hearing to determine whether there should be more disciplinary action.

The district also says under no circumstances will it tolerate any physical altercations by students to a staff member or other students.
