A nonprofit group that helps Yonkers high school students prepare for college is in need of a sponsor to help with funding.
Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) funds seven college centers. Workers at the centers help students find a career and think of the bigger picture beyond the scope of college. The program also provides test prep classes, help with college essays and college visits.
Alisa Rivera-Kirby is one of the people who helps students, but she says the YPIE has an uncertain future. It needs a new sponsor to cover the $100,000 it costs to operate the program.
YPIE also has plans to open a new center at Yonkers Montessori Academy, but will need a sponsor to do so.
